Set up maps with a Mapbox token
Couchwork can show your leads on a map and plan journeys between them. The maps come from a company called Mapbox. You create a free account with them, make a "token" (a long code that lets Couchwork draw their maps), and paste it into Couchwork.
You must be an admin, and a credit or debit card. Mapbox has a generous free monthly allowance, and a small team is unlikely to go over it. Mapbox bills you directly if you do, not Couchwork.
Part 1: Make your Mapbox account
- Go to mapbox.com and click Sign up. Follow the steps to create your account.
- Add your card details first. In your Mapbox account, go to the billing page and add a card. This feels odd for something free, but Mapbox only lets you lock a token down to your own website once a card is on file, and locking it down is what keeps it safe.
Part 2: Create a token
- In your Mapbox account, open the Tokens page (look for it in the account menu).
- Click Create a token.
- Give it a name you'll recognise, for example
Couchwork. - Leave the default public permissions as they are.
- Find the URL restrictions box and add the web address you use to open Couchwork, for example
https://chat.yourcompany.com. Now the token only works from there, so nobody else can use it if they copy it. - Click Create token, then copy the token. It starts with
pk.
Only use a public token (starts with pk.). Never paste a secret token (starts with sk.) into Couchwork. Mapbox changes the look of its pages now and then, so if a button has moved, look for the same words nearby.
Part 3: Give it to Couchwork
- In Couchwork, click Settings â Integrations.
- At the top, under Connected services, find the Maps card.
- Paste your token into the Public token box.
- Click Save token. Couchwork checks it with Mapbox and, if it's good, switches maps on. The card changes to On.
Click Test any time to check Mapbox still accepts the token. Turn off pauses maps without losing the token, and Remove deletes it.
Where you'll see maps
- On Leads, new Map and Routes buttons appear. Map shows your leads as pins, and Routes plans journeys between them and works out road distances.
- When you type an address into a contact or lead, Couchwork suggests matches as you type.
Pins only appear for leads whose contact has an address that was picked from the suggestions list. If a lead isn't showing, check its contact's address.
Distances are worked out by road by Mapbox. Check them against your own figures before using them for anything like mileage claims.
